Raj, an internationally renowned travel writer from Nepal.

Over a period of time, acupressure has emerged as a prominent therapy since it is free from any side effect since no medication whatsoever is required
Of late, it is being observed that people around the globe are becoming more health conscious. Whereas, on one hand, scientists are busy carrying out researches, finding the cause(S) in the sudden spurt of diseases in its dreaded form and finding medicines to combat such ailments which assume epidemic shape and a host of innovative methods being devices in the field of surgery, a marked shift is seen amongst the masses towards the holistic approach. More and more people trying to get focused towards fitness, adopting yoga and naturopathy as a way of life.
Paying more attention than before on their diet regime. Trying to take recourse to available non-conventional systems of medicine. One of the causative factors, perhaps, is the exorbitant cost of medicine, growing awareness about the side effects of allopathic medicines etc…! The redeeming feature is that people have started realising the importance of prevention rather than a cure.
Over a period of time, acupressure has emerged as a prominent therapy since it is free from any side effect, since no medication whatsoever is required. It is totally non-conventional, non-invasive and non-interventional, a home remedy, easy to learn and practice. The simple reason being that it is evolved on the principle that human body in itself possesses immense healing power, all that is required is to tap that healing force of the body and the rest is taken care by the body itself.
This therapy has been found to be very effective in handling conditions e.Br>g cervical/Lumber spondylitis, knee pain, Sciatica, Slip-disc, depression, insomnia, migraine, asthma, hypertension, PMS, IBS, various female/male problems etc….. To name a few.
After the publication of our book ‘101 qanda acupressure and reflexology’, our students have been demanding a book sharing our experience of about 30 years in this ‘Art and science’. This book is to meet the demand of upcoming and practicing therapists of acupressure as also for the people to get benefit of our experience.
All possible efforts have been made to depict the location of the pressure points to be attended to through figures, suggestion for correction of the errors, if any, that might have crept in would be gratefully accepted.

All this makes Sanskrit the bearer of Indian culture and truly our mother tongue.

2G Bomb: RTIS Shook North Block
The C&AG report tells that the 2G spectrum scam cost the country approximately Rs 1,76,645 crores. The amount involved in 2G spectrum scam is so huge that one cannot imagine that this scam did materialize without the involvement of the top political masters. How come nobody in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance could sniff the ‘dirty spectrum air’?
Briefly, it is pointed out that the 2G Spectrum scam infact started due to unlawful changes in Terms of References (ToR) for vacation and reallocation of spectrum from Defence and related organisations. Earlier, only the defence was enjoying the exclusive rights to use the 2G spectrum technology. The draft ToR for GoM included the pricing of spectrum. But after the discussion (as per documents supplied under RTI) between Sh Dayanidhi Maran and Prime Minister, the original ToR were modified, which were finally approved. These final ToR (proposed by Telecom Minister) had no sign of pricing of spectrum. This was the beginning of 2G Scam. Later on, no auction of spectrum licences was done and the licences were alloted at the prices of 2001 in 2008, which shocked the country due to this one of the biggest scam so far. This book is an outcome of the PMO’s and other responses from ministries to various applications filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act on the 2G spectrum. Though the response is not very warm, yet the Prime Minister’s Office sent the controversial ‘Office Memorandum’ of March 25, 2011 prepared by the Ministry of Finance, which they had sent to the PMO, alongwith many other important documents. This note, which shook the North and South Blocks, is quite an eye-opener. The book, based on the documents received in response to RTIs filed by Vivek Garg, is an attempt to bring the 2G spectrum scam in public domain. He is an advocate and veteran in RTI activism who has been fighting for long to expose corruption at high places. Now, the 2G spectrum scam, the Commonwealth Games 2010 scam, crude oil scam, the rotten grain scam, bunch of various scams in UP and politics of riots in various states, figure…

A History of Hinduism
IS THE HISTORY OF HINDUISM, THE HISTORY OF BRAHMANAS FROM RIGVEDIC TIMES TO THE PRESENT? Or, does the story of Hinduism begin with the descriptions of the ancient roots as revealed by archaeological findings and the evidence from present day tribal, village and regional cultures? This book looks at both. The history of Brahmanas, tracing their lineage to the fifty-odd Rigvedic poets, is dealt with through the chronological ordering of the Sanskrit texts which were first handed down to us as oral narratives from Gurus to shishyas. The circumstances and purposes for which these texts were written is examined, along with events of a true historical nature. This is followed by a sequential treatment of Hinduism as a ‘Rigvedic religion’, the two Mimamsas, Buddhism, Jainism, Dharmasastras, the Epics and the Puranas. The growth of Hindu temples, the role of Adi Sankaracharya and the Bhakti movement is delved into, and the influences of Muslim and British rule of the subcontinent on Hinduism is analysed. The author explores one major reason for the survival of Hinduism—the support of prehistoric tribal and village cultures which were not modified or destroyed by the later-day Brahmanas. Much of tribal and village deities and practices were co-opted into concurrent Hinduism, so-much-so that today these cannot be separated from mainstream Hindu practices and traditions. They exist in all their colourful glory to this date and make Hinduism vibrant. It is these ancient folk religions that provide a stable foundation for the survival of Hinduism, argues author R Ramachandran, presenting in this book an all-encompassing landscape view of Hinduism as it has been for the last five thousand years. Finally, the present status of Hinduism is discussed along with its survival in the future.

English Books, Garuda Prakashan, इतिहास, सही आख्यान (True narrative)A History of Hinduism: An Inside-the-Tradition View
Hinduism is the oldest religion on this planet with over a billion adherents. It is not based on the dogma of one book, one prophet and one Pope. It has no organised church, no heresy and heretics. It has an open architecture. In this wide ranging history, the author traces its origins in the Indus-Sarasvati civilisation that has been carbon dated to almost 9,500 years before present. It has amazing antiquity and cultural continuity. That is why it is called Sanatana Dharma or the eternal faith by its adherents. The leitmotifs of Hinduism are Meditation and Yoga. It is based on “Experiential Spirituality”—Hindus use Yoga and meditation to experience the truth of the Vedas in their own beings as lived realisations—as Anubhav, Anubhuti and Darshan. The author traces the roots of this great religion to the Vedas which were received by the ancient Rishis in the deep silence of the forests, as were the Upanishads and Aranyakas. He describes the lofty philosophy of the Vedanta which sees the unity of Brahman behind the bewildering multiplicity of beings and things in the cosmos. Unlike the Abrahamic faiths which arose in the deserts, Hinduism is a religion of the forests. The author traces its evolution through the Vedic, Epic and Puranic periods and its emergence from the forests to establish opulent temples in the urban cities. He describes the Hindu holocaust inflicted by foreign invaders over four centuries which killed almost a hundred million Hindus. He tells us of the Indian Military Revival which finally destroyed Mughal tyranny. He describes how India was colonised and enslaved by the British; how they used the fault lines of caste to divide and rule. He describes how a number of revivalist saints have periodically rejuvenated the faith. He describes the post-Independence political consolidation of the Hindu majority and how it was nearly undone recently using the caste card again. He speculates about the future of this faith and calls for a back-to-the- roots movement to take us back to the Vedas and the pristine silence of the forests.
