MAHATMA GANDHI’S LETTERS ON BRAHMACHARYA
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a compulsive letter writer. The most exciting portions of his writings (and responses to those) concern his women associates. Mahatma Gandhi’s Letters on Brahmacharya, Sexuality and Love deals with his cardinal principles of brahmacharya on par with satyagraha.
A definitive work on human relations, celibacy, sexuality and love, the book reads like a confessional on the scale of St Augustin and Rousseau. It deals with controversial experiments in brahmacharya.
There were more than a dozen women who came to be closely associated with Gandhi at one time or the other; that included Millie Polak, Nilla Cram Cook, Mirabehn, Sushila Nayyar and Manu Gandhi. This is his biography as well as the life-stories of all his associates. Not to be mixed are the chapters relating to Sarla Devi, whom he claimed to be his “spiritual wife” and the failed romance of Mirabehn and Prithvi Singh Azad. Also to be found in the Appendix is the exciting story of his association with ‘soul-mate’ Hermann Kallenbach, breaking entirely new grounds. Finally, Gandhi comes out as a contemporary as well as the timeless mahapurush.

Savarkar Advocate Of Hindutva
Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is one of the most polarising figures in the freedom struggle of Bharat. Even after independence, he was targeted with random cases not just by the British government, but also the independent Bharat’s government. His methods and way of freedom struggle have inspired many in those times. Madan Lal Dhingra, Chaphekar brothers, Anant Kanhere and numerous other revolutionaries got inspired. Even Subhash Chandra Bose was abetted by him in fleeing Bharat and forming an independent army. At the same time, he had major ideological differences with the Indian National Congress and their methodologies. Not just the non-violent methods, but the compromising nature of Congress’s politics and working with the British interest in mind were his main objections.Savarkar’s contribution to the freedom struggle is unfathomable. He has contributed in every field. His thinking in terms of political science, economics, future of the country, scientific temper was par excellence. Though everybody only talks about his thoughts on Hindutva, his thinking about militarisation, military prowess, how independent Bharat can be totally secure is also noteworthy and can provide guidance to even todays’ nation builders. At the time when he was being taken to Cellular Jail, Port Blair, Andaman with a sentence of 50 years rigorous imprisonment in a dark cell, as his ship neared the shore, his first thought on seeing the place from the porthole was that this should one day become a great naval base for independent Bharat. Even at that time he was thinking about the security of the country! That kind of a completely dedicated patriot he was. Savarkar was thinking, breathing, even dreaming of goodness of Bharat.
