यह आम धारणा है कि सरदार पटेल कांग्रेस के तीन दिग्गजों-महात्मा गांधी, पं. नेहरू और सुभाषचंद्र बोस के खिलाफ थे। किंतु यह मात्र दुष्प्रचार ही है। हाँ कुछ मामलों में-खासकर सामरिक नीति के मामलों में-उनके बीच कुछ मतभेद जरूर थे, पर मनभेद नहीं था। परंतु जैसा कि इस पुस्तक में उद्घाटित किया गया है, सरदार पटेल ने पाकिस्तान को 55 करोड़ रुपए दिए जाने के प्रस्ताव पर गांधीजी का विरोध नहीं किया था; यद्यपि वह समझ गए थे कि ऐसा करने की कीमत चुकानी पड़ेगी। इसी तरह उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में पं. नेहरू के प्रति भी उपयुक्त सम्मान प्रदर्शित किया। उन्होंने ही भारत को ब्रिटिश राष्ट्रमंडल में शामिल करने के लिए पं. नेहरू को तैयार किया था; यद्यपि नेहरू पूरी तरह इसके पक्ष में नहीं थे। जहाँ तक सुभाष चंद्र बोस के साथ उनके संबंधों की बात है, वे सन् 1939 में दूसरी बार सुभाषचंद्र बोस को कांग्रेस का अध्यक्ष चुने जाने के खिलाफ थे। सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने जिस प्रकार सरदार पटेल के बड़े भाई विट्ठलभाई पटेल-जिनका विएना में निधन हो गया था-के अंतिम संस्कार में मदद की थी, उससे दोनों के मध्य आपसी प्रेम और सम्मान की भावना का पता चलता है।

In the year 1966, Guru Dutt worte a book under the title of ‘Jawaharlal Nehru—a Critical Study’. The book was so controversial that it gave rise to the rumour that it had been proscribed by the Government of India. In 1967 certain newspapers did come out with the news that steps were in progress to proscribe the book and prosecute its author. However, nothing of the kind took place.
The present book is a deep study of the words and deeds of Nehru and Gandhi.
The author has taken great pains in critically studying the activities and philosophies of these two eminent personalities of our country and placing before the reader the other side of the picture. His thesis is based on works of Nehru himself and also on works of other eminent writers of the day. He was referred to more than 200 quotations which support and lead to his logical analysis. How far he succeeded in piercing through the many walls of prejudices which sustain the pet notions about, them it is for the reader to ponder and judge.

एक व्यक्ति, जिसके लिए भारत की आजादी से अधिक और कुछ मायने नहीं रखता था और दूसरा, जिसने अपने देश की आजादी को अपने हृदय में सँजोए रखा, मगर इसके लिए अपने पराक्रमपूर्ण प्रयास को अन्य चीजों से भी संबंधित रखा और कभी-कभी तो द्वंद्व-युक्त निष्ठा से भी।

Suppression and distortion of historical facts, events and personalities by political leaders, left ideologues and colonial apologists have been a consistent effort in order to serve the vested interests as far as the personality of Netaji, the heroic struggles of Azad Hind Fauj, and the people of Indian origin in South-East Asian countries are concerned. In spite of the classical works of Azad Hind Fauj officers published as their memoirs or books, the history of this armed struggle for the liberation of the motherland was not only suppressed and distorted but was sidelined in history books. The present work is an attempt to remove the smokescreen that had been deliberately planted as a cover to hide from the present generation the historical realities that explain the sacrifices of Netaji, and Azad Hind Fauj. The author was inspired to pen this work after having curated the Netaji and INA museum at Red Fort as the chief historian. This book apprises the readers with many such aspects that have remained in the archival files only like the M Organization, Azad Hind Dal – a nationalist organization for governance, the Rani Jhansi Regiment – the first modern women fighting force, Netaji at the battle fronts, attempts on Netaji’s life, the honours awarded to AHF braves and so on. Similarly, it highlights the massive contribution and sacrifices of a shepherd to a millionaire of Indian origin in South-East Asian countries. It discusses the spying missions, trials and executions, and demolishes the so-called plane crash theory of Netaji’s death. The book also discusses the role of certain families and individuals besides the disappearance of the Azad Hind treasures and the role of the Prime Minister of Indian dominion, Jawaharlal Nehru, in relation to the AHF in compliance with Wavell, Mountabettan and Auchinleck. The author has also discussed the spying missions prosecutions and executions of the AHF soldiers. In fact, the book unveils many unknown facets which may be an eye-opener for all those interested in Netaji, researchers, historians and young readers.
